A big technology forum is taking place in Seoul, which invites visitors to imagine the future.
Our Han Soo-ah went to check out the 2018 Seoul Imagination Forum at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza... and files this report.
Participants are painting on an iPad rather than a sketchbook. They can create 3-D images that could previously only exist in their head. Glenn Vilppu, one of Hollywood's top figure-drawing instructors is using digital tools to help students to draw anything they want.
On the other side of the forum, a participant is using a Virtual Reality ‘healing program’allowing them to experience a walk in the forest.
"Through the virtual reality program, my vision changes as I turn my gaze. I really felt like I was on a trip."
Experts from fields such as cartoons, animation, games, and new media have gathered at the '2018 Seoul Imagination Forum' to discuss the widening boundaries of human imagination in the era of artificial intelligence. Celebrating its third anniversary this year, the forum is being held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul for two days from August 24th to 25th.
“I think the new digital technology enables animation to try things which were technologically not possible before. It is not so much that art and animation have been change through the technology, but the technology enables art and animation to come up with new exciting visions to create new art styles and to use the technology to make these art styles become real.”
Some people have concerns that artificial intelligence is invading human imagination. But experts say that using technology as a tool can help people expand their imagination.
"I think in the case of creativity and in the case of music, working for the last years, it was very beneficial in the sense that it made humans ask themselves, what was music all about. why do we make music, how do we make, and all that."
"How far can improvements in technology help expand human imagination? Seoul Imagination Forum might have the answer.
