Hurricane Lane triggered major flooding and landslides across Hawaii on August 23 as the storm drew closer to the island.

In this video, shared to Facebook by Nathan Pablo, emergency sirens are heard blaring as residents were warned to evacuate.

Hurricane Lane, forecast to make landfall in the state, lashed the Big Island with nearly 20 inches of rain in 24 hours. Shelters were opened up on Big Island and in Maui, Molokai and Lanai to residents in danger zones.

The hurricane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm later in the day.
