Study: Low-Carb Diet Linked to Early Death If you love carbs, but cut them
out of your diet in an effort to lose weight,
you might now have reason to rejoice. A research study published in
the medical journal The Lancet Public Health
suggests that diets both low or high in
carbohydrates might shorten your lifespan. Alternatively, diets including a moderate intake of carbs could promote a healthy lifespan. According to Scott Solomon, senior author on the study, this research is "the most comprehensive study of carbohydrate intake" ever. 15,400 middle-aged
Americans were involved
in the study over the
course of 25 years. Researchers concluded that those who ate a moderate amount of carbs lived longer than
those who had either low or high-carb diets. Sara Seidelmann, lead author, via statement According to co-author Walter Willett at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, "what counts most is the type of fat, protein and carbohydrate."
