Thousands of Romanians staged an anti-government protest in Bucharest’s Victory Square on August 10.

This video shows police officers with riot shields marching towards Victory Square.

Although largely peaceful, riot police reportedly fired tear gas after protesters tried to break through security lines.

Romania’s national news agency reported up to 60,000 people attended the rally, according to Euronews.

The protestors were calling for the resignation of the corrupt Social Democrat Party which leads the government, the Washington Post reported.

An estimated three million Romanians live abroad, reportedly due, in part, to corruption, low wages and lack of opportunity.

The protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations against the government since it came to power two years ago. Credit: Sarah Atkinson via Storyful
