Thousands of people sporting green bandanas in support of legalized abortion in Argentina filled the streets outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires on August 8 as the Senate debated a bill to allow the procedure up to the 14th week.
The bill passed Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies by a slim margin in June, according to reports, sparking a renewed effort from grassroots women’s rights activists to promote the cause, despite backlash in the overwhelmingly Catholic country, birthplace of Pope Francis.
