Rescuers continued to search ruined building for survivors of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that killed 98 people when it struck the Indonesian island of Lombok on Sunday, August 5.
Thousands of buildings were destroyed in the quake, with the worst-hit area being north Lombok island. Indonesian authorities said a rescue operation to free people trapped under a collapsed mosque on the island continued on Tuesday, said national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
On Monday, authorities also evacuated hundreds of people from the Gili Islands, an archipelago near northwest Lombok. Sutopo said three ships were used to transfer about 1,000 people from the islands to safety.
