A tractor driver’s daring effort to cross an overflowing river backfired as the strong current swept away the vehicle after turning it turtle.
The driver, however, managed to escape and swim to safety.
The incident occurred in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India, on July 29.
The river Ravi was overflowing due to rains and submerged several roads in the hilly district stranding several vehicles.
An impatient tractor driver decided to ride through the river instead of taking a longer route.
But he had underestimated the strength of the current, which swept the vehicle away and toppled it. The man, however, managed to swim to safety.
A local police official said: “The tractor was mining sand illegally and was desperate to get away quickly. Many drivers risk their lives to transport their contraband in the rainy season.”
