Hundreds of citizens demonstrated in front of the Basra Governorate Council building on Tuesday, July 31, in an ongoing protest for job opportunities and better living conditions.
Footage shared of the protest on Tuesday was described as showing security forces dismantling the protesters’ tent.
“The provincial council did not comply with the demands of the demonstrators, which led to the escalation,” said one demonstrator.
“We wanted a civil protest to demand our rights, but we were surprised when the security forces came immediately and tried to suppress us. Two of us have been arrested so far,” another witness said. Credit: Rudaw via Storyful
