Owners of donkeys that carry tourists on narrow, steep trails on Greece’s Santorini Island attacked a group of animal welfare protesters on Friday, July 27.
The animal rights activists were protesting against the poor treatment of donkeys in Santorini, which has come under criticism. Donkeys are used to carry tourists up steep steps on the island, which has led to the donkeys suffering serious injuries, media reported.
Footage shows the muleteers lashing out at the protesters, throwing their stuff over the cliff, taking their phones, and threatening them. One protester reported that her 16-year-old daughter was punched in the eye. Credit: Konstantina Lyrou via Storyful
