남북 장성급 회담 종결, 공동보도문은 없고 JSA 비무장화, DMZ내 공동유해발굴, DMZ내 상호시범적 GP철수 원칙적 합의
Seoul and Pyongyang's generals met today.
A follow-through on agreements to ease military tensions, reached during the historic inter-Korean summit back in April.
The talks started at 10 a.m. local time, went on almost none stop till around 6:30pm.
Both sides were brimming with hope as they headed into the session.
Our Park Ji-won has been following the developments throughout the day, at the Office for Inter-Korean Dialogue.
Let's connect to her right now.
Ji-won let's hear about their final agreements.
Good evening, Daniel.
Today's talks have ended at around six thirty at the border village of Panmunjom,... without adopting a joint commuique.
However, both sides have come out with a few, significant agreements.
The two Koreas agreed on the principle of disarming the Joint Security Area in the DMZ,... a joint recovery of war remains,... and the withdrawal of troops at some GPs as a pilot program.
But the agreements, rather than being specific and detailed, were more of a mutual understanding.
In addition, the South Korean delegation invited the North to this year's Seoul Defense Dialogue,... scheduled to take place from September 12th to the14th in Seoul.
This is the second time this year the delegations meet for talks on Tuesday, with the first one having taken place in mid-June. At that time, the two sides agreed to restore military communication channels on the western and eastern sides of the Peninsula.
The two delegations today were led by the same officials of last month's talks -- Major General Kim Do-gyun from the South and Lieutenant General Ahn Ik-san from the North,... who are both considered the same rank.
For now the two sides said they do not have any specific plans for another round of military talks soon.
Back to you, Daniel.
