The residents of 64 flats at two Ghaziabad apartment complexes were evacuated after an adjacent road caved in due to torrential rainfall over the last 24 hours, threatening to weaken their foundations.
Ghaziabad District Administration (GDA) officials fear that flow of rainwater into the crater formed due to the road cave-in could affect the structural integrity of two adjacent apartment complexes in Vasundhara’s Sector 4C, more so because the showers are expected to continue till Saturday.
They have roped in engineers from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to assess the strength of the buildings belonging to the Vartalok and Pragya Kunj housing societies.
“We have relocated the residents of 64 flats, including those from nearby Pragya Kunj, to vacant ones in safer wings. The road repair work will continue till late at night,” said Rajiv Kumar, RWA president of Vartalok Society.
