12-Story Building in
Miami Beach Collapses The 12-story Marlborough House on Collins Avenue had been approved for demolition but not for implosion. Samuel Landis, project manager of the demolition, was in critical condition after he was hit by a projectile that shot out during the collapse. There were no other victims and inspectors confirmed the surrounding buildings were safe. Demolition is the term given
to the general process of
tearing a building down. Implosion specifically refers to the use of explosives in order to bring down a structure quickly. Miami Beach Police
are now leading a
criminal investigation
into the collapse.
