A small bridge connecting two villages in Central Java province, collapsed during a traditional festival on Friday, July 20, injuring around 20 people.
This video shows moments after the bridge collapsed, with people being plucked from the river.
Local police chief Sunaryo said around 20 people and three motorcycles plunged into the river when the bridge suddenly collapsed.
One eyewitness said a 5-month-old baby was among those who fell into the water.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, said the decades-old bridge couldn’t sustain the weight of the people on it.
