On Wednesday, the EU slapped Google with a record $5.04 billion antitrust fine for illegally using its Android OS to strengthen the dominance of its search engine. The EU said Google went against its rules when it required mobile phone producers to pre-install the Google Search and browser apps as a condition for licensing Google’s app store. Google also allegedly paid big producers to exclusively pre-install the Google Search app. Wednesday’s ruling caps an investigation that goes back at least three years.
