Why must Section 377 be scrapped?

Section 377 is the colonial era law that prohibits same-sex sexual relations between consenting adults. In 2013 the Supreme Court struck down the 2009 order of the Delhi High Court which had legalised homosexual acts among consenting adults. Now, 35 petitioners have gone to the apex court, demanding their rights to be recognised as LGBTQ individuals and for them to be granted freedoms and protections accorded to every citizen of the country. Alumni from IIT’s LGBTQ group ‘Pravritti’ are among those 35 petitioners.
