CAG report on Karnataka has revealed that the Karnataka police are woefully short on weapons that are needed in anti-terror operations and to maintain internal security. According to the report, the state police needs 1200 AK-47 rifles more. The stockpile of 5.56 mm Insas rifles is down by 70 per cent. In addition to this, the police force needs 1,313 more 0.303 truncated rifles. These haven't been procured since 2012. The state government had allocated funds amounting to 1.19 crore in the year 2014-15 for procurement of certain arms. However, the amount was not released by the state government. Ironically, the Karnataka police are supposed to be the most modernised police force in the country.
