US Set to Ban Smoking in
Public Housing Smoking in public housing across the United States is about to get snuffed out. A nationwide ban on smoking in public housing facilities will take effect at the end of July. The rule was passed by the U.S. government nearly
two years ago. The U.S. Housing and Urban Development will prohibit the use of cigarettes, cigars and pipes in all public housing units and common areas. The ban also includes any outdoor
area within 25 feet of public
housing grounds. The ban does not apply to e-cigarettes,
snuff and chewing tobacco. According to HUD, the new rule will wipe out smoking in more than 940,000 units.
