Zsa Zsa, the newly-crowned “World’s Ugliest Dog” has died at the age of 9.

Zsa Zsa, the newly-crowned "World's Ugliest Dog," has died at the age of 9.  She passed in her sleep and reportedly had no known health problems, but had reached the average life expectancy for her bulldog breed, notes the New York Times.  Though Zsa Zsa ended her life as a celebrated and beloved pageant winner, her beginnings were far less glamorous.  She spent her first five years in a puppy mill, and, after being won at auction by the Underdog Rescue, was adopted by a loving family, according to NPR.  Knowing Zsa Zsa deserved a win, they drove her roughly 30 hours to California's 'World's Ugliest Dog' competition, a celebration of the love all dogs can give.
