Right to be gay Centre's plea to adjourn hearing denied; time SC axe Sec 377

A five judge Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Dipak Misra will begin hearing pleas challenging section 377 today. As many as 35 individuals have filed petitions challenging section 377 that criminalises non-penile-vaginal intercourse even between consenting adults. The LGBT community is particularly affected by this. A Supreme Court ruling in 2013 reversed a 2009 judgment of Delhi High Court that said that section 377 was unconstitutional as it criminalised consenting same sex desiring adults.
