Typhoon Maria pummeled Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture on July 10, bringing strong winds and rain that led to slippery road conditions and knocked out power to more than 13,000 households in Miyakojima City.
This footage, captured by a passenger in a car driving through Miyakojima City, shows a first-person view of the fierce weather hitting the island.
According to a report from The Yomiuri Shimbun, evacuation recommendations were issued to approximately 25,000 households throughout the city and one 40-year-old man was injured after winds knocked him to the ground. A 70-year-old woman in Urasoe City, another Okinawan city about an hour’s flight from Miyakojima, suffered similar injuries, and flights were cancelled throughout the region.
