Firefighters were successful in controlling the southern boundary of the County Fire, which officials said had grown to 82,700 acres and was 25-percent contained on July 4, after using several backfires to slow the advance overnight, CBS reported.

Cal Fire announced that some evacuations had been lifted for parts of Yolo County because of the progress made overnight. At least 2,500 people had been evacuated by July 4, according to NBC Bay Area reports.
