Workers Fret as Last Toys R Us Stores Close for Good As the last of the Toys R Us stores close this week, workers worry they'll be left out to dry. The toy store chain officially declared bankruptcy in September. In March, it sought a bankruptcy court's approval to start closing its 735 U.S. stores. Worker severance payments were halted due to the liquidation. Every Toys R Us worker is leaving with zero, and Bain Capital is leaving with $475 million in profits. "Because we were forced to liquidate ... we were not able to follow the normal severance process," a Toys R Us spokesperson told 'CBS News.'
