Fire crews worked to contain a 60,000 acre county fire, by spraying fire retardant on July 2, around the edges of the blaze burning in Yolo County’s Rumsey Canyon.

The large fire, which ignited on June 30, was only 3 per cent contained on Monday evening. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for various parts of Yolo County, including north of Highway 128, south of County Road 23, and east of Berryessa Knoxville Road, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The fire department said the blaze is showing “extreme fire behavior” as it burns through tall grass, brush, and dense oak. Credit: adventurous_hutch via Storyful
