Dr. Dre Producing Marvin Gaye Biopic The Hip-Hop legend is the first person to be granted permission to tell the Motown icon’s story and to use his music and likeness for a feature-length film. Gaye’s estate has given Dre their blessings after shutting down Jamie Foxx, Cameron Crowe and Lenny Kravitz in the past to make a film. Born in 1939, Gaye is one of the greatest soul singers of all time and released classic songs. He was tragically murdered by his father in 1984. Gaye was posthumously inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and given the Grammy's lifetime achievement award. Dre co-produced Straight Outta Compton in 2015. The NWA biopic received mass critical and commercial success.
