The Rockford Fire Department rescued people from cars submerged in rising floodwater in Rockford, Illinois, on Monday, June 18.
Several counties in northern Illinois, including Winnebago and Boone, were under flood warnings Monday after 3 to 5 inches of rain fell in less than four hours, according to local news reports.
Several hospitals reported flooding, and the National Weather Service said the fire department made rescues from 15 vehicles.
This video shows the Rockford Fire Department and volunteers rescuing people stuck in cars. One car can be seen standing vertically in the video, and the water appeared waist-high or above.
