A street fight in Auckland's CBD was captured on Friday night, with one aggressor caught on camera using a home-made flame thrower.

The ruckus scene occurred outside the Cathedral of St Patrick, just off the corner of Federal Street and Wyndham St in Central Auckland, and involved up 10 men.

In the video clip, one man can be seen using a lighter and a deodorant spray can to spark up a flame during the altercation.

Punches are also thrown and a lot of swearing is heard in the violent clash.

The group were allegedly drinking outside the church for a number of hours before the fight. One witness said the police eventually turned up and detained two of the men.

The men are believed to be in their 20s and are thought to be of Maori or Polynesian descent.
