The White House has fired back after MSNBC host Joe Scarborough compared the Trump administration's approach to undocumented immigrants crossing the U.S. border to the Nazis' treatment of Jewish families.
White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement released to Fox News, "It is appalling that Joe Scarborough would compare sworn federal law enforcement officers— who put their lives on the line every day to keep American people safe— to Nazis."
"It is also horribly insulting to the memory of the 6 million Jews who perished in the Nazi Holocaust," Gidley added.
This response was issued after Scarborough blasted a briefing Thursday where press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the administration's separation of children from their parents at the border, saying, "It's the law. And that's what the law states."
Scarborough went on the attack the following day on his show "Morning Joe," saying, "why is she lying this much? I know children are being ripped from their mother's arms, even while they're being breast-fed. I know children are being marched away to showers....being told they are — just like the Nazis — said that they were taking people to the showers and then they never came back."
According to CNN, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed Friday that between April 19 and May 31, nearly 2,000 minors had been separated from their guardians at the border.
