Sit down with Professor Kim

Let's now take this time to get an expert's perspective on yesterday's summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump and the declaration that was signed between the two leaders....
For this, Professor Kim Jae-chun from Sogang Graduate School of International Studies joins us in the studio today.
Thanks for joining us today.

It's a pleasure to be here.

1- So the two leaders of North Korea and the U.S. pledged to start a new chapter for North Korea and their bilateral relations during their summit yesterday.
What are your thoughts on what came out of yesterday's summit?

2- How will the process of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula go from here on out?
The joint declaration made two separate references to "complete denuclearisation".... and "CVID" or complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization was nowhere to be found in the declaration and that's far from a surprise.

3- What were your thoughts on Mr. Trump's press conference... which indicated that additional verbal commitments may already have been made with Kim Jong-un.

4- Among other revelations,.... Trump announced plans to cancel South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises.... and the U.S. Forces Korea said Tuesday,... that it had received "no updated guidance" yet related to stopping the regular exercises with South Korea.
So what can we make of this?

5- How would normalization of relations between North Korea and the U.S. affect South Korea and also, we heard that
China praised the outcome of the summit.... how do you think improved North Korea- U.S. relations would affect China and its diplomacy?

6- What can we expect in regards to dealing with North Korea and its human rights issues?
Trump when asked by reporters about whether North Korea's human rights record came up at the summit... and he said that the issue was discussed "briefly" and then "at length."

7- So yesterday's summit was the beginning of a new start for North Korea and the U.S.,... how do you see things panning out in the near future?
Would we see the two leaders meet again next month?
Would Trump invited Kim to the White House come September?

Thank you so much for your insight today professor.

My pleasure.
