Patricia is an old woman, with no family to support her. Until recently, she did not have her own toilet and was forced to use her neighbour's. But following the UNICEF-supported sanitation and hygiene campaign in 2017, Patricia decided to build her own toilet.
Over 1,500 new toilets were constructed as a result of this campaign, increasing coverage of proper sanitation from 62% to 76%. With support from Embassy of the Netherlands in Rwanda, almost 12,000 additional households now having new or upgraded toilets, impacting more than 51,500 people.
