Metropolitan Police have arrested a man in south London on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Video filmed by an eyewitness on Sunday evening (June 3) shows police detaining the man on Landor Road in Clapham, who can be heard ranting at officers.

Video shown from a bedroom window overlooking the incident also shows an officer holding a container, inside which is a large knife.

In a statement, Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 20:38hrs on Sunday, 3 June to reports of a man armed with a knife in Prideaux Road, SW9.

"Officers attended and located the suspect in nearby Landor Road, SW9.

"A Taser was deployed but not discharged.

"Officers recovered a knife at the scene."

Although no injuries were reported in this case, the police said, London has been blighted by a rise in knife and gun crime in 2018.

At least 37 people have been fatally stabbed in London since the start of the year, according to UK media.
