A three-year-old cancer victim who was crowd-funded to the US for the same life-saving treatment as Ashya King after the NHS refused has been given the all-clear. Doctors told Raluca and Phil Vinson their poorly son Alexander would benefit from the proton beam therapy (PBT) after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour last July. PBT accurately targets tumours with a powerful beam and is effective in brain cancers because it does minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. It was successfully used to treat Ashya King, whose parents famously took him abroad after he was refused the treatment in the UK.
