Boffins have discovered a new 'wonder plaster' that can save the life of young burns victims - that GLOWS when it spots infection. Teams of experts working at Bath University reckon their new medical dressing can detect early signs of Toxic Shock Syndrome - an often fatal complication arising when young children suffer burn injuries. The onset of Toxic Shock Syndrome is very sudden and can turn a small burn into something potentally fatal within a few hours. The new dressing, developed by Dr Toby Jenkins, glows under a UV light when an infection is detected within the burn, alerting healthcare professionals of the presence of disease. At the same time it does not interfere with the skin's normal healing process.
