President Trump on Sunday lashed out at former President Obama over the Russian meddling.
President Trump on Sunday questioned former President Barack Obama's actions regarding Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 election. "Why didn't President Obama do something about the so-called Russian Meddling when he was told about it by the FBI before the Election? Because he thought Crooked Hillary was going to win, and he didn't want to upset the apple cart! He was in charge, not me, and did nothing," Trump tweeted. The comment comes amid Trump's assertion that, during the Obama administration, the FBI inserted a "spy" into his campaign, a political scandal that he says could be among the biggest in history.
A New York Times piece has rebutted Trump's claim, noting, "F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign."
However, the president has continued to make those statements.
"A lot of people are saying they had spies in my campaign," Trump told reporters last week. "If they had spies in my campaign, that would be a disgrace to this country. That would be one of the biggest insults that anyone has ever seen, and it would be very illegal, aside from everything else. It would make, probably, every political event ever look like small potatoes."
