문 대통령 "앞으로도 긴급한 현안 논의 위해 번잡한 형식 뺀 남북정상회담 있을 수 있다"
President Moon Jae-in has stressed the importance of meeting more easily and casually with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un... just like the way he did over the past weekend.
He's ordered his aides to come up with necessary measures keeping in mind that there will be more of such getaways in the future.
Our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung has our top story.
One of the greatest scenes from the first summit was your cross over to the North for 10 seconds.
I should have welcomed you more properly; the way you treated me in the South. I feel bad.
Chairman Kim's popularity has risen in South Korea.
I think the fact that the leaders of South and North Korea can so easily meet up at Panmunjom like this opens up a new era for inter-Korean relations.
Once unimaginable... in fact, up until this past weekend, that is... this kind of a casual meeting is what the rest of us may witness more often in the future between leaders of two sides separated by the most heavily foritified border in the world.
Or it's at least what South Korea President Moon Jae-in hopes for.
Speaking to his top aides two days after his unannounced face-to-face with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the northern side of the Demilitarized Zone - the border that separates the two Koreas - President Moon ordered necessary arrangements be made for future meetings of such... as he plans to make these somewhat like "a normal routine between friends."
"The latest inter-Korean summit was extra meaningful in that we could forego complicated procedures and protocols and we quickly got in touch and met up to discuss urgent issues. We met as if it were a normal routine."
.
The South Korean president asked his aides to come up with measures... keeping in mind that similar instances could happen in the future... to ensure there are no gap in the line of military
command, keeping national security council members on stand by, making sure there are balanced on-spot media coverage as well as notifying related countries before and after such meetings.
President Moon also stressed, however, that holding regular summits such as one scheduled in Pyongyang this fall is also vital in improving inter-Korean relations in addition to these impromptu
"routine meet ups" midway on the Korean Peninsula.
