A U.S. court has ordered Samsung Electronics to pay a total of 539 million dollars to Apple in compensation for design patent infringement.
A California court made the ruling Thursday, some seven years after the patent battle between the two tech giants broke out.
Apple sued Samsung for "slavishly" copying its smartphone and tablet technology in 2011, and had originally demanded one billion dollars in compensation.
With the latest ruling, Samsung will have to pay around 140 million dollars, as the South Korean firm had previously paid 399 million dollars for some of the patents included in the case.
Apple has stated it is happy with the decision. Samsung has said it is maintaining all options to challenge the ruling.
