Over the past 40 years, Xia Boyu tried and failed four times to make it to the 8,848 meter peak of Qomolangma, also known as Mount Everest. During his first attempt at the age of 24, he lost both legs to frostbite. In 2014, he had to abandon his attempt after an avalanche. Xia tried a fourth time in 2016, but a snowstorm forced him to stop just 94 meters from the peak. He said that this failure, so close to his goal, was his life's biggest regret.

But the 69 year old was not going to be defeated. On his fifth attempt, he became the first double amputee to reach the world's highest peak on Qomolangma from the Nepali side on May 14, 2018. Check out the video to see Xia's inspiring story.
