Multiple cracks were seen on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) outside the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park after a 3.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the Big Island on Wednesday, May 16.

According to Hawaii 24/7, the shallow quake was centered beneath the summit of Kilauea volcano and caused cracks to emerge on nearby buildings and roads.

Park emergency managers did not close the road but urged motorists to avoid stopping near the damaged area except for emergencies, Hawaii 24/7 reported.
