The Gaza Health Ministry said that more than 40 people were killed and more than 2,000 wounded in protests that erupted in Gaza on May 14, the same day the US officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem.
The UN deplored what it said was the “shocking killing” in Gaza, where tens of thousands gathered near the border fence with Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces said “riot dispersal means and fire” were being used on more than 35,000 Palestinians who they said were hurling firebombs and explosive devices near the Gaza border fence.
There were protests, too, in Jerusalem itself, near the site of the US embassy. There were 14 arrests, Haaretz said.
