Shashi Tharoor could serve up to 10 years in prison if convicted after the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet on Monday in the mysterious death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar in 2014. The charge sheet was filed before Metropolitain Magistrate Dharmendra Singh under sections 498 A (husband or relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
Pushkar was found dead in a luxury hotel room on 17 January, 2014 days after she publicly accused her husband of having an affair with a Pakistani journalist. The post-mortem at AIIMS revealed a case of sudden and unnatural death and also revealed that certain injury marks were found on her body.
