BRIAN GHILLIOTTI: EXPLORING OFF OF I-395 SOUTH, CONNECTICUT: CEREMONIAL STONES OR GLACIAL DEPOSITS?

2018-05-12 8

I climbed to the top of the rocky hill along I 395 and found the large stones that I saw placed on its top. It is actually two stones. It was probably one stone but it got split by a combination of ice expansion weathering and earthquakes. I did see some evidence that one of the so-called glacial deposit boulders was perched. It is very odd how many of these large glacially deposited boulders end up on the very edge of prominent elevation drop offs or cliffs. Whether this boulder was in any way manipulated or not, it undoubtedly had some ceremonial significance in pre-colonial days. Brian Ghilliotti
