भारत के दूसरे परमाणु परीक्षण को आज 20 साल पूरे हो गए।11 मई 1998 को पोखरण में हुए दूसरे परमाणु परीक्षण ने भारत को एक झटके में दुनिया के परमाणु संपन्न देशों की श्रेणी में लाकर खड़ा कर दिया। इससे पहले 1974 में भारत ने अपना पहला परमाणु परीक्षण किया था। इसके 24 साल बाद भारत ने एक बार फिर दुनिया को बता दिया कि वो किसी भी परमाणु शक्ति संपन्न देशों से पीछे नहीं है। हालांकि भारत का परमाणु परीक्षण शांति के सिद्धांत पर आधारित है।
Twenty years ago, on May 11, 1998, India conducted the landmark Pokhran-II nuclear test at the Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. A series of five nuclear explosions were conducted between May 11 and May 13, 1998, under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. The second Pokhran Nuclear Test was conducted after Smiling Buddha in 1974. May 11, the day of first of the five explosions during the Pokhran-II nuclear weapons testing, was officially declared as the National Technology Day. For Pokhran II nuclear test, more than 100 scientists and technicians worked under the leadership of Late President APJ Abdul Kalam who was the Scientific Adviser to the prime minister and Head of the DRDO.
