Himanshu Roy, former Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with his service revolver on May 11. The incident occurred at his south Mumbai home at around 1.45 pm. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. The 1988-batch officer had been undergoing treatment for cancer since 2016. He is credited with being involved in solving many prominent cases. These include the murders of journalist J Dey, bollywood actor Laila Khan, lawyer Pallavi Purkhayasta. He was also instrumental in the probe into the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal. Roy trained as a chartered accountant before joining the Indian Police Service.
