Water burst through Patel dam in northern Kenya on Wednesday night after weeks of torrential rains, and swept away hundreds of homes. At least 41 people have been killed and many are believed to be missing as rescue operations continue. The Kenyan Red Cross estimates that up to 500 families have been affected by the disaster. Kenya's government in a statement said that at least 132 people have died since March die to floods caused by seasonal rains and that the dam burst has taken the toll to nearly 170. The area affected by the dam burst has been evacuated.
