Clean-up operations commenced in and around Hobart, Tasmania began on May 11 after parts of the city were pelted by torrential and fierce winds overnight.

The Australian reported thousands of home were without power and roads and schools were closed on Friday morning.

The night before, vehicles in the low-lying parts of the city were swept away by flash flooding. The University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay Campus was also shut down after power was cut and several buildings flooded.
