Montana transportation workers continued removing snow along the scenic Beartooth Highway on Wednesday, May 2. Video released by the transportation department shows the spectacular view of the mountains that can be seen along the highway.
Beartooth Highway extends from Montana into Wyoming and eventually into Yellowstone National Park. The highway closes each October for the winter before reopening on Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
Workers have been clearing snow along the highway since mid-April, posting regular video and photographic updates. Snow drifts along the road can reach up to 26 feet in the higher elevations. The Montana Department of Transportation is responsible for the road to the Montana-Wyoming border, and the National Park Service maintains the remainder of the road into Yellowstone.
