The nation's top office expressed regret over failing to keep its promise of holding a nationwide vote to revise the constitution during the June local elections.
In response to a public petition on its website, Jin Sung-joon... the presidential secretary for political affairs ... apologized regarding the matter, and blamed the National Assembly for thwarting the plan.
Explaining that while the planned referendum for the ammendment will not be pushed through, he assured the government will continue efforts to increase the sovereignty of the people, adding that the Cheongwadae will come up with a detailed plan by the end of May.
The official also asked for the parliament to revise the National Referendum Act as soon as possible.
