Kellyanne Conway recently suggested that Melania Trump is “superior” to Michelle Obama as a first lady.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway recently suggested that Melania Trump is "superior" to Michelle Obama as a first lady. A TMZ reporter asked Conway if the media's apparent reluctance to put Melania Trump on the cover of U.S. magazines when Michelle Obama was featured on so many is a "double standard." "Melania Trump is such a superior and excellent First Lady. This country is so lucky to have her," Conway responded, in part. "I don't think she needs to be on the cover of a magazine for everybody to see how wonderful her work is," she also noted. TMZ is not alone in noticing that the current first lady, a former model, has yet to receive the publication-related attention given to her predecessors. NBC News spoke with a number of people familiar with the magazine industry and found there are a number of reasons for the lack of Melania Trump coverage. One matter is her often-polarizing husband. "There is no way to do the Trumps without infuriating either the base or the resistance. It is a no-win," a magazine editor told NBC.
It was also noted that it's tough to write about the first lady because so little is known about her.
"She's very locked down so we don't really try. It's difficult to get real information on her," James Heidenry, the editorial director of Bauer Publishing Entertainment Group, commented.
