Social media users blasted Republican Senator Ted Cruz on Thursday over his gushing tribute to President Trump. The recent piece, featured as a part of Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people, calls Trump "a flash-bang grenade thrown into Washington by the forgotten men and women of America." "President Trump is doing what he was elected to do: disrupt the status quo," Cruz also states. "That scares the heck out of those who have controlled Washington for decades, but for millions of Americans, their confusion is great fun to watch." USA Today notes that it wasn't that long ago that Cruz described Trump as "utterly amoral," a "serial philanderer," and a "pathological liar." Trump was hardly an innocent bystander in the situation. According to The Hill, "Trump suggested during the [presidential] campaign that Cruz's father was involved in the John F. Kennedy assassination and retweeted a tweet critical of Cruz's wife's appearance." While Cruz may be willing to forget the past, the Internet apparently is not. One of the many Twitter reactions to the Time piece reads, "Call me old fashioned, but if I were Ted Cruz and Donald Trump had personally branded me as a liar, suggested he had dirt on my wife, spread rumors that my father assassinated JFK, and was, you know, Donald Trump, I'd probably pass on writing his effusive TIME magazine blurb." "This is so humiliating for Ted Cruz. I can't stop laughing. Is he auditioning to be Trump's butler or something?" another person wrote.
