A special NIA court acquitted all five accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad that killed nine people and injured 58. The court cited lack of evidence as the basis of the acquittal. NIA had taken over the case from the CBI in 2011. The chargesheet named 10 people who were alleged to be part of a right-wing Hindu organisation. Only five of them were arrested and faced trail. Swami Aseemnand was already out in bail while a Rajasthan court in 2017 sentenced Devendra Gupta and another person to life in jail.
