Senator John McCain has a new memoir coming out in May, and, according to the publisher Simon & Schuster, the seasoned politician "holds nothing back." Called 'The Restless Wave,' the book covers McCain's 2008 presidential run to the present. That includes his account of the dramatic and often disruptive 2016 election and his views on the "current developments coming out of Washington." Notably, the Senator has shown no fear in breaking with President Trump's agenda, and was among the handful of Republicans who voted against and prevented the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. McCain has also publicly criticized Trump on numerous occasions. "[Trump] is an individual that unfortunately is not anchored by a set of principles. I think he's a person who takes advantage of situations," McCain said about Trump in an interview with Esquire. "He was successful as a builder, an entrepreneur, and all that. But I don't think he has the fundamental underpinnings of principles and beliefs." Further, McCain recently issued a statement slamming Trump for congratulating Russian President Vladimir Putin for his election victory.
"An American president does not lead the Free World by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections," McCain noted on March 20. "And by doing so with Vladimir Putin, President Trump insulted every Russian citizen who was denied the right to vote in a free and fair election to determine their country's future, including the countless Russian patriots who have risked so much to protest and resist Putin's regime."
